Does anyone here have a family member or close friend who is disabled in any way? If so, please tell me about what it's like to be around them (unexpected behaviors or anything else that makes them different). I'm disabled myself (bipolar disorder, Asperger's Syndrome, slight deafness in my right ear). And I have a half-sister who has Rett Syndrome, a more severe form of autism. She is very sweet, but she's 20 and can't talk at all and has a rare seizure disorder. Occasionally, she can communicate in ways other than speaking, such as using her own computer and ASL. I love spending time with her, but it can be frustrating being around someone like that. I feel a bit badly for her since mainstream high school students don't understand her condition. Try this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rett_syndrome Now what about you guys? And please don't be mean about it. Thanxx

My Mom had seizures when she was alive so I know a lot about them and thought of myself as her protective since I was about 10 or 12 years old. She also had lupus. She died on pneumonia.

My sister has Down's syndrome. Can't really say what it is like being around her... it's just like being around my sister.

As you know, I'm disabled. I hate the way new people act around me. They think because I'm wheelchair bound that I can't speak for myself. I used to hand out with my sister and we'd go see her friends in town, they would completely ignore me because they didn't know how to act with me. One of her friends was talkin about havin kids, my sister's a lesbian so they were talkin about ways of her havin kids. The stupid bitch turned to me n said "Obviously you can't have kids!" Wtf? That bitch has no idea what she's talkin about,
