That there are people who actually think Obama is a socialist or a communist?

Do you even know what socialism or communism is?

Obama may want to provide health care for everyone, whether it is a good idea or not, that does not make us COMMUNIST.

Jesus christ, America. Can we get any stupider?

um.  it's not quite there but universal health care and his education reforms.  they border on socialism.  a few more gov't policies and we'd be there

i wouldn't go with he himself being a socialist, but the nation as a whole would be way better under socialism.

When he wants to use the tax system to re-distribute the wealth, that makes him a socialist. That's definitely not the purpose of taxes.

It is a bit socialist. And I imagine that if someone's trying to say that he is being too liberal, then they'd say that he's being socialist, and not be wrong.

Communism's a different thing altogether though.

Apparently, some of us can't.

Yeah, I understand that it is a bit socialist. But so is the bailout.

Point being, people are acting like it's going to be the end of our economy and that as soon as Obama enacts this, we as a country will implode.

Really now.

No.

Basing an economy on total socialism, or "communism" as we call it, would not work in the modern world.

Maybe if our society was drastically different, but the way it is now communist countries don't fit the international mold or even the human mold. They just aren't economically feasible, such economies mostly result in failure or a gradual change into a modern economy which is a mix between socialism and capitalism.

But the bailout is not a political stance. It's a one-off decision.

Though anyone who acts like the world will end with either Obama or McCain is probably too extremist. Though personally I'm surrounded by Obama-supporters and haven't heard such a comment. Obama has some pretty socialist ideals.

My point was that you grouped socialism with communism, and reinforce that both of these will cause the country to implode, in your words. That's overreacting, as are people who freak out over Obama being elected. Socialism isn't even totalitarian, it's really not inconceivably far-fetched.

He is socialist, which is a step away from democracy and toward communism. If you can't see/understand that then you are either too biased to think clearly or you just don't understand the nature of your own topic.
