First off I'd like to say that I'm in college but thought that these boards would get a lot more traffic.

I am in a course called Engineering Design and have to come up with and build a small scale project that will in some way improve life in a dorm room. My major is electrical engineering, so preferably whatever I create will involve electronics in some shape or form...

I have about two weeks to create a prototype design and can't come up with any realistic idea of what to build. So I thought I'd try my chances here and see if anyone has any ideas of what I could create!

Lighting, heating, ventilation?
Maybe something that would light, heat and dry clothes?

design an alarm clock that moves after the second time you press snooze (or the first, w/e) so that you cant hit it again and have to get up next time it goes off

Hmm... I think I would be able to give you a better answer if I had actually lived in a dorm...

I dunno... specifically dorm life?  I dunno, touch screens in dorm rooms that do something?  Maybe something like prereserving a shower, or being able to order food from specific restaurants, or something weird like that... but then again, I suppose that's like the internet, lol.

Let's see, something to do with lighting, or possibly creating something in the rooms that would increase space?  Maybe like something in the closet that can shift to the side to make more room... but I suppose you wouldn't need electricity for that.

Lmao... yeah, sorry, I'm of no help.  Maybe something to do with how you get in and out of your dorm room?  Maybe some kind of screen that can divide the room if one person really needs to study but the other roommate wants to sleep or talk or something?  All of these things are basically things that probably exist in some shape or form...

I'm an high school architecture major, and all dorms tend to be small spaces. I suggest you find a way to improve space usage.

Yeah some of these ideas are a lot of what others are doing as far as conserving space and stuff. I wish I could do stuff with touch monitors and whatnot, but I don't have that kind of knowledge...or time...

Maybe I'll try and think about something I could do with lighting, because in my dorm this year I've been provided with one poor light that barely lights any of the room.

The only thing is what we design has to be something never really been done before so it'd be pretty difficult to do somehting with lighting i feel.

Thanks for all the great ideas though, they're really helping me think that I can get this done and do well!
