If you really think about it critically, suicide prevention is done in the interest of the subject's family and friends; not the person themself.  If someone is suffering so constantly and deeply that they want to end it permanently, isn't is a bit selfish that we expect them to continue on?

Our presence here is so temporary and insignificant in the grand scheme of things that you cannot possibly argue that the life of one person is of any critical importance...besides as a detriment to the happiness of others.
We are just props in each others lives.

As logical as that might sound, I think that is a bad way to think about things.

I think it's best to try to help the person considering it to an extent, but in no way should they be forced to live if they don't want to. It's cruel.

I disagree. If someone is feeling so badly, more often than not suicidal depression can be helped and resolved.

Things can get better for that person.
If we're all just props for one another's happiness, wouldn't that make each and every one of us very important?

Very true.

And my reason to be one hundred percent against it. This is the one thing where I should be allowed to be selfish!

Logic overrides societal norms.

There are people in the world that care about the happiness of others. Meaning if someone is suicidal, there is someone that wants THAT person to feel better and to get their life together so they can lead a loving and happy life like everyone should.

The desire to get help is not an absolute.

So? just because they aren't doesn't mean that their wish isn't real.

I'll be the first to admit something like that in most cases. After rereading what you wrote, I'm not sure I agree. Are you saying that suicide prevention is mostly gone about in a way that can be construed as selfish, or that it inherently is a selfish thing?
