At least I think they were gunshots...I heard multiple loud *cracks* outside.

Hmm... Call someone to investigate. Are you home alone? If so, then make sure that all of your doors and windows are locked, position yourself somewhere that you can't be seen, preferably in a room with few windows and two exits that can be seen.

Hopefully it was nothing but it never hurts to be too careful. I used to walk around with a kitchen knife when we lived in the country because our neighbors were total creeps and hated us. We caught them sneaking around in our yard and looking in our windows once....
