you have to start all over, which sucks. THe only songs you can transfer are ones you actually paid for on iTunes.

When you look at your iPod while it is hooked up, click on the little tab for it on iTunes. Click on the tabs at the top of the screen which say things like Music, Photos, etc. One of those tabs will have something regarding iPod syncing.

your not helping lol. the songs currently on my ipod, do not exist on my computer anymore, they got deleted when my comp got a virus. so when i sync my ipod, those files that don't exist, will get deleted if i sync my ipod
My computer IPOD show hidden files go like, "music" or something navigate until you find a folder that has like 30 different folders, each marked with a number drag all these folders into one folder on your comp tada

Wow, there's some pretty creative ways to save your music. Here's my suggestion, which I'm surprised isn't out here already. Step one: Plug in your iPod Step two: Go to your iPod device in iTunes, and there should be two different options. One is auto-sync, and the second is manually add songs to your iPod. Click on the second one, so you are now manually managing your iPod's songs. This way, you can keep all of your songs that are already on, plus, any new songs you have, you just drag into your iPod. The bonus of this is that you can now go over to your friends house, and drag any music or videos you want onto your iPod from their iTunes, without having to sync to theirs either. The disadvantage is that you can't sync everything of yours all at once, you have to add new songs manually.
