i know that the word contralto means an alto singer with a very low register

mezzo soprano means a a voice that is somewhere between being an alto and soprano

is there a word for a singer whose register is very wide, meaning she can hit soprano 1 notes as well as contralto notes?

just wondering.....

Yeah, I'm in that situation too.
Generally, that's just called "Wide range"

They don't place anybody in that register, in a choral situation especially.
If you're doing solo work, they will occasionally place a singer in a song that's up and down the scale, but there's no specific voice register for that.  It's just called having a wide range.

If you're talking choral situations, a director will find the place in your vocal register where you are most comfortable, and can belt your notes loudest and clearest.

if you're more comfortable singing alto, but you can hit soprano and beyond, then you're a wide ranged alto. if it's vise versa, then you're a wide ranged soprano. :-)
