What happened to a lot of Obama's supporters?

You all remember at the beginning/middle of the race when everyone was like, "Vote for Obama! McCain sucks!"(People still say that, but not as much.) And, "McCain will keel over before he gets to his inauguration!" or "Obama's like Chuck Norris, he can get assassinated and still live!"

Stuff like that. Point being, a lot of people have now turned on Obama and gone towards McCain. They're almost equal in who wants to vote for them.

What happened?

He lost about 25% of his original supporters to McCain, even if he is still in the lead.
