OK, so I heard someone say taht they take their rest day one day out of the week...But um, isn't this really bad??

Is it bad to lift weights every single day??  Or if you do, do you switch it up? Like abs this day, chest that day, legs, etc.????

You're much better off switching it up. You need to allow your muscle to rest, unless you want to build like, nasty bulky muscle.

Yeah, you're supposed to let your muscles rest. What happens is when you work out, you tear the muscle and it heals and gets bigger. If you don't let it heal, you get fucked over.

to work the same set daily is not a good idea, the muscles need time to heal and form. but yes, you CAN work different sets every day..but it takes so little time to do it all at once, thats not usually the case.

in general, you should usually wait at least one day, sometimes two, until the next workout on that same group of muscles...usually depending on how intense the workout was the time before

More like if you want your muscles to rip away from the bone. Nasty bulky muscle comes from protein supplements every day, and pushing very hard for years on end.

Which reminds me of my neighbour. At work, he thought that he could actually push a 700 pound block just a little bit. Granted, he works out, but not nearly enough to push that kind of weight. He tore his bicep right from the bone and had to get it reattached.

I know this kid who goes to my karate dojo and he also does kick boxing. So anyway, his friend's dad was kick boxing and he went to punch someone and tore his bicep in the middle so each half shot to opposite ends of his humorous bone and his arm was basically stuck and he had to have surgery and all that jazz.

You definitely need to give you muscles a rest and take a day off every few days. If you're working out you also need to remember to stay hydrated. I try to always keep a bottle of water with me during the day or have something like Aquafina Alive to stay hydrated and get some important vitamins too.

I don't think it is too bad if you use the different muscles each day.

It's not bad per se.

You're just not giving your muscles enough time to recover from the training.

A muscle grows after a good work out, enough rest and the right protein.

If you work out every day, I recommend to split the training. Chest & Back this day, biceps & triceps the other day, and so on.

your muscle wont rip from the bone.... If you work the same muscles every day, like others have said, it will not allow the muscles to "heal". Which can lead to overtraining, and your body wont be able to lift anything, or straining the muscle(s).

Best bet, if you are lifting really hard, only lift that muscle group 2 times a week. If it is not that intense, then you can just go to having a days rest in between workouts.

So, as long as you keep swtiching it up, you should be fine.
