Quote: from ChemicEmotions at 11:07 pm on Sep. 7, 2006Actually that is not what I am talking about at all. homework is something to keep you practicing and on your feet, i am sorry but getting 25 problems every other night, and 3 worksheets for the opposing day in math. A time line thing to make in American Studies, and 5 chapters to read in english as well as having to write up 2 labs for what we did in science might seem like a bit to me each night.

And that is not including the 8 page reserch paper i must turn in every other week in my L2K class.

i never said they ASSIGN things around the same time, don't put words in my mouth thanks.

I said they give HOMEWORK, a bit too much in my opinion, for one class each. they should keep the homework moderate, and small in size, and try and remember that you have about 7 other demanding teachers.

I disagree. Do you think when you start to get a job, or when you go to college, teachers/bosses are going to make it simpler for you to do a task, even when they are ten tasks to do at once? I think not. High school is supposed to prepare you for the future, and if you're actually enrolled into a school that does that-- consider yourself lucky. Half the shitheads at my school will probably not make it in the world just because the teachers gave it too easy for them.

You see we are getting away from my pint.

WE are tired cause we do what they asked. So i think they should STOPP complaining about our little engery for class. Most of the time we have none left.

Well, to me, your point is saying that teachers should lower the standards. I disagree with that.

I do agree, however, that they should stop bitching about us kids being "tired" all of a sudden-- because they pulled soda from the cafeteria-- and then blame it on the parents that they're not 'watching over their child'. That's complete bullshit.

Isn't the main ingredient in soda said to be carcinogenic, something called sodium benzoate or something like that. "In combination with ascorbic acid (vitamin C, E300), sodium and potassium benzoate may form benzene, a known carcinogen." (Taken from Wikipedia)

The only vending machines at my school, sells healthy juices. The canteen sells the soda, but you still have a choice, I usually go for the juice or water.

Money. That's all it is. The company signs a contract with the school, the kids (and administrators) buy the products, the company makes an assload of money, and helps the school out a little bit with their funding.

2. It makes you thirsty (as all sugar filled drinks do)
is the diuretic effect of the caffeine actually enough to counteract the high water content?

(also, pretty sure you're wrong.  the sugar isn't what dehydrates you.  caffeine is a diuretic, sugar is not... try drinking a glass of oj.  plenty of sugar in it.)

Actually,

Loading high fructose corn syrup into increasingly larger portions of soda and processed food has packed more calories into us and more money into food processing companies, say nutritionists and food activists. But some health experts argue that the issue is bigger than mere calories. The theory goes like this: The body processes the fructose in high fructose corn syrup differently than it does old-fashioned cane or beet sugar, which in turn alters the way metabolic-regulating hormones function. It also forces the liver to kick more fat out into the bloodstream.

The end result is that our bodies are essentially tricked into wanting to eat more and at the same time, we are storing more fat.

I'm not sure what the point of your quote was, because iit isn't even remotely related to what I posted, but it's wrong anyway.

HFCS contains glucose and fructose at roughly the same ratio as standard sugar.  it's just that in cane sugar, glucose and fructose are combined in to sucrose.  there has never been any scientifically plausible explanation presented as to why glucose and fructose would be metabolized differently as the individual components rather than the combined sucrose.

studies done saying fructose are bad have been focused on pure fructose.  only 55% of the sugar in HFCS is fructose - the rest is glucose.  in table sugar, that ratio is 50/50.

CSPI, a group that is almost PETA-like in some of their anti-fastfood rhetoric, doesn't even try to blame the small fructose/glucose ratio difference for anything.

there is no study that has ever said that the F in HFCS is processed differently than the fructose in table sugar.  the only suggested difference has been the very slightly more fructose in HFCS, which has never been actually reliably linked to a difference anyway.

but, again... my post was about diuretics, so I have no idea what the hell relevance that had anyway.

Not LOWER their standards.

When was I complaining? I'm not saying teachers should stop giving homework out at the same time, am I?

And you know what? School is tiring. It's not supposed to be fun, it's not supposed to be easy. It's hard work. By you saying that teachers should start to tell other teachers when they're going to give their projects is LOWERING THE STANDARDS.

Aw, poor Susie can't get her project done =( What about the other 24 students who did get it done? Why is Susie the only one who couldn't? What makes her so special?
