Some people around here get the filters, but they just aren't needed.

Well, how do you use any type of water filter if you live in a public dorm and share a bathroom with all the girls on your floor?  Where do you use this??  Are you even allowed?

You don't need to use the type of filter that fits over your faucet.  They make water filter pitchers for situations just like this.  Just take it to the sink in the bathroom (sometimes schools have water fountains or seperate sinks for this), fill it up, and let the filter do it's job.  Follow the directions to make sure you're doing it right.

Here's what it looks like;

Thank you so much!!  That looks really neat, I need to look into getting one.  Do you know about how big it is or a price range?

I've got one of those - about 30cm tall, bit less than 15cm wide? You buy it and then a few times a year change the cartridge.

I would like to add a footlocker to the list. They are great for stuff that you want out of the way or locked up.

These Can Be Purchased upon Arrival
Paper towels
Trash bags
Light bulbs
All-purpose cleaner
Zip lock bags
Kitchen storage containers
Laundry detergent (tablets are easiest to manage)
Fabric softener (sheets are easiest to manage)
Dish soap
Wet wipes
Tissues

lol, technically, everything can be bought upon arrival, not just those few things you mentioned.  Unless your college is in the middle of nowhere.

Sometimes its just best to get them before hand because anything can happen.  And not to mention how crowded the stores become that are nearby to the campus just because other people decide to buy them at the same time.  I mean, the day I move into my dorm will be crazy because it's a rather popular day for all students to move in.

This is a cool topic. My sister said she already put a laptop on layaway for me for my graduation but even if I don't get that, LSU has 24-hour computer labs in their dorms. Awesome! Anyways, gosh, I really hope I can most of these things when I go...in like over a year..

The computers at the school are fine but it is so much easier to have your own laptop and printer.

Very true. I don't know about a lot of schools but my school provides free ink for thier printers, and if you haven't priced ink refills... they're pretty damn expensive.  So check with the school beforehand to see if they do the same and how the whole computer situation works out in the dorms.

All good questions!  Deciding what to bring with you is a really tough question.  To make it worse you dont need the same things at ever school.  Some have printers you can use for free... so why bring a printer? Others dont.  I found this website.... http://www.ratethedorms.com.  They have reviews of dorms all over the united states and some helpful articles.
