I'm going to be a senior in high school this coming fall. And I really want to go to college to do acting or something. But I don't want to attend a college anywhere in this town or state. I hate it here and the people here are awful. I think I'd be better off going somewhere far away so I can start new and I dont have to worry bout past classmates talking bout me to other people I never met. My whole high school year has been based on who i could be friends with or not because of people talking bout me and my friends. but my parents are making this big deal bout how I don't have the grades to go anywhere else, and how they don't have the money to send anywhere else and im too young..blah blah blah. WHAT AM I SUPPOSE TO DO? they can't control me forever I KNOW THEY WANT TO. but this is getting ridiculous. I'm not aloud to go anywhere without an adult and I'm almost 18 WHAT AM I SUPPOSE TO DO?!

Tell your parents that in the end you will listen to them but you will make your own decisions. They arejust trying to get their opinion across but if it is standing in the way of your happiness then do what you wanna do. A good saying, " Pearls do not lay on the sea-shore. If you desire one, you must dive for it..."

I would just sit them down and tell them hey this is your decision, because after next year your pretty much off on your own and you are going to have to live with the decisions you make......not them so its your life and you'll only have regret if you look back and did what everyone else wanted you to do.  And for not having the grades or money....join the military or peace corp or something those are free easy to get into options out of where you are right now.

Well, if your parents wont do it, you do it. Apply for the college.. bring your grades up, get a job. Where there is a will there is a way. You dont want them to baby you anymore, get a job do it for yourself if they wont help you.  Like you said your going to be 18 you can do it yourself then.

Parents never understand.  Sometimes I wanna cuss mine out.  But you have to explain things to them, they are old fashioned.  Just sit down and have a talk.

How could you guys be saying your parents dont understand?

How dense can you be?

I don't know about where your from, but in the state I live in, it's about 14,000 to attend school for 1 year. That is a LOT of money.

However, if you're going out of state, the number pretty much doubles.

I'm sorry that mommy and daddy don't wanna spend 28,000 for you to go out of state, find that the experience will be no different than highschool, then have to drive 8 hours to pick you up and bring you home constantly.

Look, if you want to go out of state for college, thats great. But make sure your reasons arent because of being afraid of some people from highschool. And then make sure your parents are willing to pay that much for school. Be glad they're willing to pay for your school in the first place. There are plenty of kids who would dream to even be able to attend college, let alone have their parents pay for out of state tuition.

And let me tell you from a college experience as a junior this year, that gossip doesn't really happen in college that much. People change, and highschool doesn't matter after about 4 months in school. It's odd how things work out in college. Some  people who were never friends in hs, and even hated each other, become best friends in college. I've seen this happen multiple times.

And by the way, it's not uncommon to want to be over with highschool and be sick of the people there. I was the same way. I wanted to be separated from people in hs, so i tried to dorm away from others from my hometown. It turns out 3 years later, I'm living with 2 other guys from my hometown, but am friends with a smattering of others from other places.

I can understand wanting to get away from hs people. I chose a college that most of the people at my school would avoid and in my state. I have managed to dodge almost everyone that I graduated with this entire year even when I'm spending time at home. It's possible to start anew in college, but go somewhere that makes you happy not someplace that you see as an escape.

Look at different kinds of schools and talk with your parents.

My advice is that bite the bullet and take the shit for now, but tell them that you need your space aka sit them down. Discuss it with them. Dont worry, when you are in college its going to be different because your parents will finally recognized you as full grown adult. You always can transfer later on to school that is better- so your parents dont have reason not to give you your freedom.

You have to give your parents more credit.

Think about how hard it's for them to realize that their kid is graduating, thus going out to the "real world." And to top that off, their kid wants to go out of state.

And, of course, money is always a factor. Expecially if you want to go out of state, thus not getting much financial aid and crap.

If anything, they really are looking out for your best interests, despite what many of us think.
