Should I go to college?

Hello, well, my situation is this...I dropped out of HS 2 weeks before graduating because at the time I was using large amounts of powerful psychedelics and wasn't exactly attached to reality, and hitchhiked myself away from my hometown and ended up in Iceland starving and frozen months later, I later returned home and spent 9 months working hard labor jobs- and then out of the blue I joined the Coast Guard. I've been in almost 2 years now and have done a fair bit of seafaring around the Micronesian islands, and was content with my misfortune because it justified my existence- because it was crap, a plight is better than complacency. But I'm pretty discontent/complacent as it is now, because I'm stuck on land doing the same job everyday back in my state of upbringing,  I'm very excited for the next 2 years to pass and take back my freedom. But the problem is, I'm considering when that time comes again I'm going to disappear again, the way it looks i'll probably end up in the merchant marines back on the high seas. But I now have a HS diploma, and some 20 college credits(I went to a 7 month long school to be an electronic technician for the CG), and $40,000+ for college, so it seems like it'd be the really smart thing to do to take advantage of that(the money has to be used within 10 years of my last day in the military), and if I don't do it right away I'll probably never. But I have a feeling I'll be discontent in the same way I am now, I'll find college boring and probably despise the soft plush life, and hate everyone.

What do you college people think? I dont know...

When you were in high school were you a good student? If you were getting Cs and Ds I would recommend finding a different job in the military, if you were a decent student with motive - I say go for college.

It'll never hurt to give a college a shot.

I was a pisspoor student in High School, I think my GPA was 2 something. But really, that was more to do with my disposition towards school at the time than my ability. Obviously my disposition has changed a lot over the years. I definitely disagree with your alternative of finding a different job in the military, I'd rather cut a finger off than re-enlist. I think just because I fucked off in HS doesn't mean I shouldn't ever give school another chance, I think I am probably capable to do as well or better than those that gave their all in HS.

You so sound smart and realistic so I have no doubt that you'll be able to make it through college. Was your military time really that bad? I'm thinking of enlisting myself. If you do decide to go the school route, good luck. :)

No, it wasn't that bad, I wasn't meaning to say that by what I said. I was just getting at, I joined the military with the sole intention of doing 4 years, and the thought of doing any more than that has never crossed my mind, I've accomplished what I wanted and it'd serve absolutely no purpose to do it all over again, and therefore I'd rather cut my finger off than waste 4 years of my life doing something I'm done with and done.
