it's like, I have no idea when he goes to bed really, but he sort of lives in a cordoned section (what would normally be like an office alcove) of the kitchen/living room of our condo. and when he doesn't have class he will sleep until about 3 PM...I'm getting back from class and he's still asleep... is he insane? does he have some kind of sleeping disorder? it's just a bit weird I think.

My flatmate sees that of me
He has a more hectic schedule than I do but whenever we can, we both sleep in sometimes we wake up at 4 or 5pm if we went to bed late enough. my best friend often wakes at 6 pm if she has no class!
But yea part of student life I guess is taking advantage of anytime you want to sleep in, because mom and dad arent there to bug you to wake up

he is probably just a sleeper.  But excessive sleeping can sometimes be indicative of severe depression.  He should maybe check that out if sleeping like that isnt the usual in his life.

My roomate has the same prob. We bunk our beds, and our room is rather small, and he's a bit nocturnal. It's always annoying because i have to be extra quiet during the day so he can sleep, which means i can't work on homework, watch movies, listen to music ect. BUT, he tends to do just the opposite in the middle of the night. He plays video games through all hours of the night just blaring the sound up really high, he purposely wakes me up sometimes just to show me shit from a movie or website that i didn't care about.
So, i confronted him about it. I told him how the current situation was really unfair and how severely unhealthy it was for him to be doing this (Especially since he skips all of his college classes and this will be his last semester on campus...) And through this confrontation i found two things.
A)- He was severely depressed. After talking to him about the issue, he went to his psychologist and now he's on medication.
B)- He didn't realize how big of an issue the matter really was until we both talked about it.
I think a lot of situations are the same as well, that their might be a major underlying issue (depression, or not knowing how big the issue really is) I think that everyone should at least confront one another about the issue in the most mature and professional way possible. I think by doing this, no one would have their feelings hurt or there wouldn't be a great rift in the relationship. If you go about fixing the issue this way, and someone involved is offended or is being really immature about the issue, that's the time when that person is unable to function in such an environment and an authoritive figure (RA, Area Coordinator, Parents) should step into play. I know it's a bit tattletail-ish, but leaving the issue unabided could create bigger problems in the future

sometimes people just like to sleep.  I sleep all the time my roomate and me have football schedules but he is like the energizer bunny.  We both have to get up at 5 in the mourning to go to manditory lifting, then afternoon practice at about 3:30 but between then I usually hit class then the bed.  And sometimes after practice I will go to bed then wake up and so some work then back to bed.  Just be nice, I understand if you want to watch tv or something, do it anyway because if you really think about it, if the other person is really tired it won't bother them.

It's really his business as long as it doesn't prevent you from using the apartment.

If he wants to sleep his life and future away let him go to it.
