I was at a choir meeting where all two year college choirs meet.  there was one point where volunteers were to sing a solo.  I got up on stage, planning to play piano while I sang. the song was "Canta Per Me" by the composer Yuki Kajiura.  I thought I was just little less than average, but I promote all the composers I like in any way possible.

anyways, I forgot all of a sudden how to play piano(I was nervous) and just grabbed the mic instead.  I sang it, and was done.  the critic came down onto the stage.  She says this in general:  wow, I'm amazed how well you control your voice.  but did you know while you were singing, we turned off your mic?

I was like "OMFG!" in my mind.  my fingers went ice cold and my head was burning up out of embarrasment at first.  but she then said: It didn't matter. everyone in the audience heard your voice and didn't even notice the mic was turned off.

I didn't know I could belt out opera like that.

she asked me if I had any voice training. I haven't. she asked who my choir instructor was. I pointed to my instructor.  she told her to get me personal voice lessons. she said that my voice, for being untrained, was amazing. the only thing she critiqued me on was to learn italian better.  nothing about my voice, except for "stretching" the note like "taffy".

I'm so stoked!  How does an untrained voice really know opera? I didn't know I had it in me.  the room I was in was very big.  I even amazed the choir I'm a part of, too!  they didn't know I could belt it out like that.  I'm a bit confused, though. not sure what about.  I haven't stopped singing(ya'll know what I mean) since then.  It's like a confidence booster.  I'm so happy, too.  I can continue to stress how happy I am, but I don't want to bore ya'll.

Thanks for listening to me.  I just can't believe I can actually sing opera and belt it out. I'm usually real timid. that's why I grabbed the mic.  but now that I know I can belt it out without the mic, I don't think I'll even need it unless I need to be heard over instruments.

I don't think I'll get that much. but even just for voice lessons will help greatly.  the instructor said I should consider teaching music, since I have so much love for music.  but I'm kind of afraid to teach.  what if I make a mistake while teaching?  I can't stand to lead people astray.  anyone planning on teaching? I need some ideas on pro's and con's of teaching.  just opinions even.
