why do people drink alcohol?

I think there are a lot of reasons why people drink. Some people literally have a problem. Others drink to relax or for a release, and some just drink to be social. Never really thought about it until now, but a lot of our social activities revolve around alcohol...almost like it isn't an event unless there is booze.

different people do it for different reasons..

1. get stuff off your mind for a couple hours
2. they want to fit in
3. some have become alcoholics
4. just to chill with friends

can't think of anymore but some may drink for those reasons or completely different reasons..

I've noticed that among the lists many have posted, "taste" is not often mentioned. Granted, I don't know too many people that like Bud Light or other traditional college beers. But there are some people who are more selective, and buy or drink higher quality beers, wines, or hard liquors that can actually be enjoyable.

Um its not because people have a habit or because it calms them down but because in our society it is seen as the thing to do. Go to a major college and ask people what they are doing this weekend and they will say party and u ask why, and they will say cause its college and I and to get F***ed up. people only se this is a social norm thats why not the stupid reason of habit or to calm them down.
