Some stuff has gone missing
I think my roommates took it

Here's the situation, in a nutshell...the housing staff in my apartment building decided they want to renovate the building next quarter, and start with my floor, so all the students on my floor are being forced out. My roommates decided that they do not want to live in school-sponsored housing any longer, so they went and rented their own apartment, along with a couple of other girls. They asked me to go with them, but I declined - I prefer to remain here.

They moved out last night, but I noticed that a couple of my things are no longer here. Most of my silverware is gone, all but 2 of my dishes are gone, and my iron is gone. I don't know if the roommates mistakenly took these things, or they did it on purpose because they needed them, but either way, I'm a little ruffled about it.

I had a whole set of dishes that were quite nice, as well as glasses. All my dishes are gone, and all my glasses are gone. I have 2 bowls, 2 cups, 2 glasses (which are not even mine), and a handful of silverware. For some reason, my roommate left a few pans in the oven...I don't know if she forgot them or what.

I have no way of contacting my roommates to find out where they are now living or how to get back my stuff. I don't really feel like making a tizzy over all of this, but I would prefer to have more than 2 damn dishes. I am wondering if they took my dishes out of spite or something, because I was not overly upset or concerned about them leaving. Don't get me wrong, they were very cool to me, as I was to them. But, they are not people who I would become friends with had we not been forced to live together.

Any suggestions? Should I just forget about it?

I know my mother will be tossing a big fit because she's the one who bought me all the things that are now missing.

I assume that somehow you guys go to the same school or college. So my recommendation to you then is to wait until you see them at school and ask them about these things that you can't locate.

i think you shouldn't let it bother you, but if by chance you see them, you should ask where that stuff is

I would be mad, thats YOUR property. However, your former roomates had to leave a mailing address for the school to send stuff to. If you contact housing or the registrar, explain the situtaion, they may be able to help you.

Wow, this sure got replies rather quickly.

I thought about it, and I don't think I'm going to piss and moan about it. The iron and the glasses were brand-new, but the entire set of dishes were from a thrift store. Nothing expensive there. I know how my mother is with money (very cheap), so she'll probably have a bitchy fit over this...if she finds out anyway.

Thanks for the help, guys...I'll keep you updated if anything comes up regarding my missing items.

I'd say it depends on the value of what was stolen. There is a principle in the matter, but if you're not going to be seeing these people again anyway, and it's not a loss you're going to feel... do you really care?

However. There's probably some lesson for you to learn, in this. Perhaps it's time to be more careful who you trust with your things.

Eh, the items stolen were not of tremendous value. They are damn lucky that those dishes were not of any value greater than what I paid for them...otherwise I would make their existence living hell until I got back what belonged to me.

Someone left a brand-new Macintosh keyboard here for one of my roommates, and I sure hope they aren't expecting me to deliver it. Sorry, but since my possessions were stolen, I am keeping the keyboard and will probably sell it to another student or get it on eBay. Whatever was left here by them, I am keeping; this includes quite a few food items and some cups.
