this is what works best for me:
try very hard to pay attention and become engaged during class, ur paying for it after all. Don't worry about notes too much, ull just end up having to study them later, itll be like listening to the lecture xcept much less efficiently.
Once that's done, try to think about what you need to know all the time, or whenever you remember. If you're just walking around etc try. Even if you can't think of hte answer its good, you'll remember it for sure once you finally discover it.

Some advice i was given: set realistic goals for yourself, very few people can study for long periods like 3 or 4 hours. If you set yourself a target like this you are likely to fail and feel discouraged. I find it better to study for let's say 1 hour or an hour and a half, and then take a 10 or 15 minute break, before starting again.
Also it is a good idea to excercise regularly, to relieve stress. It can become all comsuming and frustrating studying and cramming for long periods and excercise is a good way to relieve tention.
Re:lectures, dont worry if you lose concentration during a lecture, just listen for key words that are being used to help you get in tune with your lecture again.

Just make sure that you are giving at least one hour to three hours of your daily hour for your study, that would really help a lot.

If there is one thing I can honestly say that I have never been able to do, is study. I basically prepare for exams, by going to class and understanding the material being taught in that class one time, do a little research on the topic and then leaving it alone. Probably do some practice questions, seeing as my course is mainly a practical course with calculations to be done in every course except a few.

For the classes which are more theory, I still try to understand the material. However this time I need to review the notes before the exam, preferably the night or morning before. Certain words or phrases trigger my memory and thats how I am able to pass the exams.

So basically I just read my notes a few times and go in the exam and hope for the best.

I'm not really one to set an example for people. I've always waited until the last second for everything (I'm a procrastinator), and I'm like that for studying too. After a while, I've come to realize that I focus my best at the last minute. So for me, studying between 2-4am for a test that I'll have later that day works the best for me.

But, sometimes I'll do things like rewrite my notes (so that they are more easily read) but also so that I'm forced to read each thing individually, and it's like a small overview of what I need to study.

I recommend taking time throughout the semester before your tests to study. Take 15-20 minutes at a time to look over your notes. It has been proven that if you study in bits before a test, you will be better of than cramming the night before.

That is my 2 cents!

I don't just study, I also pay attention in class. Keep your mind actively involved in the dicussion- yes that means even listening to the professor. When you're jotting down notes in class, don't just mindlessly write them down; think about it! Make sure it makes sense to you.

And actually, when I do that, I study the night or a few hours before test and I do extremely well.

to remember a whole page worth of lecture.. think of it as a picture. You don't have to remember everything. You just have to be familiarize with the words and terms used. While answering, visualize the picture in your head.
reviewing your notes.. is also one. Jotting down while the teacher lectures, helps a lot.
rewriting, helps your subconscious brain to remember things.
(it works for me..^^ - rissa jean)
