Subject: Really bad relationship issues with parents
Sorry this is kinda long but I really need help.  Okay so yesterday I get into the car and my mom says "you are not going to get your permit tomorrow" and I am like why?nd she throws this progress report at me...and its from my Anatomy teacher (which btw that class is my hardest class) and it says that my test average is a 57 which isnt good at all I know but thats not counting my quizzes, labs, homework, and partcipation.  So anyway she doesnt even listen to the fact that it doesnt include those other things and she just flips on me telling me I am going to fail at life and all this other shit.  It made me feel horrible.  And then she calls my dad and tells him that I hate school and I don't even try (which I try really hard especially in anatomy and I stay after school and everything) and so he is like well then she just can't have her computer after 9 and she can only have her cellphone if she is going out, which is understandable because I don't need my cell while im home...it doesnt make sense.  But then when we get home she unplugs my laptop and is like bring it out to the kitchen NOW! and I was like no I am doing homework and she goes I don't care and I know you don't care about grades either you are just a failure and im like UGHHH so I shut my door and I turn my radio up.  Then my dad comes home and starts threatening me tellin me that I have no respect for my mother and all that stuff.

when infact no one in my house has respect for me.  so my dad goes you don't need respect so shut your mouth before I slap you so hard you have bruises on your body!!! and I got scared and ran into my room once again.  then my dad didnt know that my bf was in jail but outta spite my mother told him and he storms into my room and is like and you will have no communication with him whatsoever!! and thats where I totally freaked out on him and I was like I will send him as many letters as I want and I will read the letters he sends me back, you cannot choose or judge who I am with.  and then later on I decided to apologize to my mother just so that I could get my cellphone back and also so she could talk to my father and let me send brian letters.  I also talked to Kevin who is brians brother last night.  and Kevin said that brian always talks about me and he actually had called for his daily phone call to them and talked to kevin and told him to go online and tell me to make sure I send my letter friday.  kevin says that brian still thinks im gunna forget about him.

I am going to make up some way to send and recieve letters if my father tells me no.  but I am pretty much sure sucking up to my mother workedd.  but idk what else to do..i dnt have my cellphone because according to my mother I still don't know what respect is.  but I get it back tomorrow.  any help is greatly appreciated and if you are just going to say mean things please don't say anything at all.  this is all really upsetting to me.   .

I have the same problem with my parents. They don't really understand that you tried hard and you can't help being bad at it. They do not understand how they are hurting you when they claim that it's going to affect your life. My dad had been like, "You should just go be a maid. Wait, no one might even hire you." They don't understand how their words affect you. But then again, they are maybe trying, ineffectively to try to motivate you to study.
However, they do not know how much they are actually demoralizing you. Usually we need our parents' supports because in truth, it actually makes you feel better no matter how hard the situation is; you know that you have a supportive family behind your back and that motivates you to go further.

They think that whatever you do that is affecting your grades must be the laptop, handphone, TV...well in truth sometimes taking these things out of your room or not letting you use it may not help. Parents, they don't really try alternative ways to help you improve, instead they just try to take away your distractions and wait for you to get back on your feet yourself.
What I usually do is; I think about how good my grades shall be and how famous and well-educated I shall be and when that happens, I will prove my parents wrong and be better than them in my life.
Although that is not exactly a good way of thinking, trying to be better than your parents when in truth they are simply trying to help you and want you to get better grades so that you can get well in life. They are probably not sure how to help you achieve it and in their frustration, they just try to force you to study and stuff like that. They are actually indirectly caring for you and is desperate for you to get what they want you to do because they don't know how else to do it.

So I guess we just have to tolerate it and think that someday we are going to be great and when that happens, we can look at our parents smugly or thank them.

Hey Hun,

I remember those days. I remember fighting and fussing with my parents like no other. I know that a lot of what they did back then was out of love, but at the time it seems so upsetting and unfair. Try talking to your mother one on one and once things cool down, talk to your dad.  I know its unfair for him to not let you talk to your boyfriend, but he loves you and thinks he is protecting you. You're at an age where you're definitely not a child, but not quite an adult. Your parents, like many others, don't know how to give you the freedom you need aligned with the structure that they should provide.

If you approach your mom and dad and talk to them calmly, this may work in getting some of your privileges back. To further prove to your parents that you DO care for school, talk to the anatomy teacher and see if you can do extra work to bring your grade up. (And yes, anatomy is SUPER hard! AHH!) This will show your mom and dad that you do care. (even though I'm sure you do already!)

Parents are weird. I think that once they've cooled down a bit, you'll be ok. If you ever need to talk to someone, you can message me anytime.

<3 Rach
